From Fes, the route heads south through the Middle Atlas, passing Ifrane and cedar forests where Barbary macaques live, then follows the Ziz Valley with its long palm groves down to the edge of the Sahara.
The dunes of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga are the most famous in Morocco. Small villages, palm gardens and nomad tents surround the sand, and the views from the top of a dune at sunrise make the early start more than worth it.
Fes is the spiritual and cultural capital of Morocco. Its medina is one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world, full of artisans, old madrasas, fountains and the famous leather tanneries.
During these 2 days you will see how much the landscapes of Morocco change in a short time, from mountains and valleys to palm oases and desert plains, with very different ways of life in each region.
Expect a warm welcome with mint tea on arrival, a spacious tent decorated with Berber rugs, a proper bed with fresh linen and a private bathroom with hot shower. Dinner is a feast of Moroccan dishes, and the night ends with drums and stories by the fire.
