Some trips are about ticking boxes, but this 5-day desert trip departing from Marrakech is about taking the time to really feel the Erg Chebbi dunes of Merzouga and Mount Toubkal. With a carefully organised format, a local driver who knows every turn of the road and stays chosen for their character, it is an easy and relaxed way to discover Morocco.
About This Tour
The journey from Marrakech crosses the High Atlas through the Tizi n'Tichka pass, then continues past kasbahs, oases and red earth villages, with plenty of stops for photos and tea along the way.
The dunes of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga are the most famous in Morocco. Small villages, palm gardens and nomad tents surround the sand, and the views from the top of a dune at sunrise make the early start more than worth it.
Mount Toubkal is the highest summit in North Africa at 4,167 metres. The climb starts in the village of Imlil and follows mule paths up the valley to a mountain refuge before the final push to the top, with breathtaking views over the High Atlas.
Over 5 days and 4 nights, the itinerary balances time on the road with visits and moments to relax. Distances are planned so you arrive before dark whenever possible, and your driver is always ready to stop for a viewpoint, a coffee or a short walk.
Riding a camel into the dunes is one of the classic Sahara experiences. Our camel handlers lead the caravan at a calm pace, giving you time to enjoy the shapes of the sand and the changing light before you reach camp.
Pick-up from your hotel or riad is included, and we can also arrange airport transfers or extra nights. Send us your request through the form and we will prepare a programme that fits your plans.
