About This Tour

Erg Chigaga is the largest and wildest dune field in Morocco, reached only by 4×4 across dry lake beds and rocky desert tracks. Far from roads and villages, it offers a true feeling of remoteness and some of the darkest night skies in the country.

M'Hamid is the last village at the end of the road in the Draa Valley, a traditional meeting point for caravans. From here the desert begins in earnest, and nomad families still move with their herds across the surrounding plains.

The 2-day programme is flexible: you can start early to make the most of the light, or take things slowly and enjoy long breakfasts and lunches in local restaurants. Accommodation is booked in advance in places we know and trust.

At the end of the afternoon you meet your camel and its handler at the foot of the dunes. The caravan slowly makes its way through the sand while the sun goes down, a peaceful moment that is often the highlight of the trip.

The 4×4 part of the trip takes you to places that ordinary cars cannot reach, such as rocky tracks, dry lakes and small desert villages. Our drivers know the terrain well and drive safely while making it an adventure.
