About This Tour
Khamlia is a small village near Merzouga known for its Gnawa community. Their rhythmic music, played with large drums and iron castanets, has deep African roots and is a wonderful cultural moment.
The 4×4 part of the trip takes you to places that ordinary cars cannot reach, such as rocky tracks, dry lakes and small desert villages. Our drivers know the terrain well and drive safely while making it an adventure.
Meeting a nomad family is a highlight of this trip. You will share tea, learn about life in the desert and see how families move with their animals in search of water and grazing.
Gnawa music, played with drums and metal castanets called qraqeb, has its roots in sub-Saharan Africa. Listening to it in a desert village is a powerful and joyful experience.
